Folly Beach Fishing Report – July 2025

With Capt. John of Folly Beach Fishing Charters

Summer is in full swing here at Folly Beach, and the inshore bite has been strong despite the heat. As water temps hover in the upper 80s, we’re adjusting tactics and finding success targeting redfish, speckled trout, and sharks.

Redfish

Redfish have pushed into deeper water during the heat of the day. We’re finding consistent action around deeper docks, ledges, and creek mouths using cut mullet and menhaden. These fish are holding tight to structure and feeding during moving tides. The morning bite has been especially solid on the outgoing tide.

Avoid the shallow flats unless you're fishing at first light—midday redfish are sluggish up top but ready to eat down low. No need for artificials right now; natural bait is outperforming plastics hands-down.

Speckled Trout

Trout fishing has been decent in the early mornings. Live shrimp under popping corks near current breaks and deeper grass edges are producing solid fish, especially on the higher stages of the tide. We're also picking up a few on mud minnows when shrimp aren't available. Expect the trout bite to slow by late morning as temps rise.

Sharks & Bonnetheads

For those looking for a rod-bending good time, the shark action has been outstanding. Bonnetheads, blacktips, and Atlantic sharpnose are thick in the deeper creeks and near the beach. Fresh cut bait is all you need. These trips are great for families and offer steady action throughout the day.

Pro Tips from Capt. John:

  • Fish early or late to beat the heat and catch the best tide windows.

  • Use cut bait and focus deeper during the midday lull.

  • Bring plenty of water and sun protection—it’s hot out there!
