August Fishing 2025
Folly Beach Fishing Charters – August Inshore Fishing Report
With Capt. John of Folly Beach Fishing Charters
August is here, and the inshore waters around Folly Beach are alive with action! While the summer heat is peaking, so is the fishing. At Folly Beach Fishing Charters, Capt. John has been putting anglers of all skill levels on fish daily—and August continues to provide exciting opportunities for those willing to adjust to the season.
Redfish in the Heat
August redfish are holding tight in deeper water during the heat of the day. The key to success? Fishing early, fishing late, and targeting structure with moving current. Capt. John recommends using cut mullet or fresh menhaden on a Carolina rig around deeper creek bends, oyster points, and docks with shade. We’re seeing quality slot reds and even a few over-slot bulls pushing into the creeks on higher tides.
Speckled Trout Still Chewing
Trout fishing remains consistent in the early mornings. The bite slows by late morning, so getting on the water just before sunrise pays off. Live shrimp under popping corks has been the top producer, especially near grass lines with good tidal movement. Capt. John has also been picking off nice fish on deeper drop-offs and ledges in the 6-10 ft range.
Flounder Lurking in the Shadows
Flounder are staging around creek mouths, pilings, and sandy pockets this time of year. While they’re often incidental catches, targeting them with mud minnows or finger mullet on jig heads has brought in some keeper-sized fish this month. They’re ambush predators, so be patient and give the bait time to sit near structure.
Sharks Still in the Mix
For those looking for a hard fight, bonnetheads and blacktips are still cruising the sandbars and creeks. Blue crab, cut bait, and shrimp have all been working well. Shark trips behind shrimp boats continue to be a big hit for those looking for action-packed fun.
Tactics for August Success
Fish the early morning or late evening tides to beat the heat (and the fish are more active).
Focus on deeper pockets and shaded areas during midday.
Use fresh, natural baits.
Don’t forget plenty of water and sunscreen—August is hot, and hydration is key.
